Everglades Fishing Report

As I’ve said before, the Summer time in the Everglades is my favorite time to fish for Snook on top water plugs. The big girls are out on the outside and you have to fish early, because of heat and the afternoon thunder boomers. The crowds are extremely low during the week, you sometimes feel like you have the whole place to yourself. Early morning, calm conditions are perfect for targeting gathers big gals. I had the Varga family several weeks ago for their annual trip to Florida and all they want to do is throw top waters. This year I had three on my boat and my friend Scott Sommerlatte had two. My boat focused mainly on the outside, Scott stayed in the woods. We caught quite a few fish but only landed three that were good enough for pics. We lost some that would have been picture worthy, in fact Pat, the dad, had one that straightened the hooks out, that fish would have easily been over 30”. Sam, the boyfriend, had one that went about 35”, and Madison had one that was mid to upper 20”. We caught snook, reds and trout both days.
