Everglades Spring Patterns: Red Hot Redfish Window, Snook Success, and the Coming Tarpon Migration

The fishing in the Everglades has been pretty good. The weather has predictably been challenging at times but all in all we’ve managed to stay on a pattern. Fly fishing this time of year is always more challenging than spin. Fish tend to have to see the fly before they eat it, but with a paddle tail jig they can feel the vibrations and lock onto it in dirtier water and eat it. Being that most of my trips are fly with a few spin, you can really see this play out. The Redfishing was really good for about a week, the weather was nice, the tide was right and the water was pretty clear… it’s the Grand Slam of good fishing. People are already looking for Tarpon which is actually good because they’re not crowding up the backcountry where I’m Snook fishing. But very soon that’ll be all my people will want to do, Tarpon, Tarpon, Tarpon!
